About Darren Smith

Darren was born and raised in Brawley, CA. After receiving his bachelor’s degree from Point Loma
Nazarene University in San Diego, Darren moved back to the Imperial Valley to carry on the family
tradition at Smith-Kandal Insurance & Real Estate. Darren began his career in 2004, actively working in
both Insurance and Real Estate Sales. He has created a fresh, innovative and aggressive outlook to a
fourth generation business with over 85 years of experience. Darren's focus is in agribusiness, serving
the needs of the community through farm/ranch sales and listings and management, as well as providing
general liability, property, workers compensation and other insurance products to his customers. Though
agribusiness is his specialty, he also supports everyone in between. From large corporate building leases
to insuring your home and auto, Darren and Smith-Kandal can get the job done. Clients served include
the Imperial Irrigation District, Judicial Counsel of California - Administrative Office of the Courts, and
Homeland Security.



Professional designations include current Planning Commissioner and Past Planning Department Director
for the City of Brawley, Past President for Brawley Chamber of Commerce, Past Director of Imperial
County Association of Realtors Trustee, Pioneers Memorial Hospital Foundation, Past President of
COLAB (Coalition of Labor, Agriculture & Business), and Director of Finance at Gateway Church of
Brawley.


Darren resides in Brawley, CA with the love of his life, Melissa Smith, and two children. While Darren
enjoys his career, his greatest joy comes from spending time with his family, attending his church, snow
skiing, and participating in the community.
